My First Update — Blueberry Bee Boutique Is Official!
Well, after about 2 years of saying I was going to do it, I finally have done it! I registered my new small craft business, Blueberry Bee Boutique, on the 25th June 2026. I was super happy of course, but then as soon as the excitement wore off, I realised I actually have to get to work now. That brought me straight to the website — what I consider the showcase for my business. It needs to convey what I want the business to be, what it represents, and I want shopping in my store to be as enjoyable as possible.
So with this in mind, I found this really cute and cosy theme from Design Pixie that I thought perfectly represented what I wanted my store to look like. I honestly thought choosing the theme was going to be the hard bit… but I was wrong. Try setting up a Datenschutzerklärung — that was an ordeal and a half. And of course, I had the joy of doing it twice because my webpage timed out the first time. After that came the privacy policies, shipping policies, and all the other boring-but-necessary things that make a website “official.” Then I had to set up shipping rates, which was really the cherry on top of the fun cake.
But now all that is mostly done, except for the fact that I’ve decided to run my store in two languages: English (my native language) and German for all my local customers. This means a lot more work, but I think it will create a better environment for everyone and make the shop feel more welcoming. It’s important to me that people feel comfortable browsing, no matter which language they prefer.
Now my focus is making the website look pretty — or prettier, anyway — and stocking it with all my products. This is the fun bit: creating! I have some products all ready to go, but I’ve been struggling to take good pictures. I want all the photos to feel cohesive and match the general aesthetic of the page because I think that’s really important. I’ve tried a few setups already, but nothing has looked quite right, so I’m now waiting on a light box to arrive. Hopefully that will help me take some decent photos that actually do the products justice.
So I’ve got pictures on my list for next week, and this week I’m trying to tie up all the loose ends on the website and get all the collections, products, and descriptions prepared. It feels like every time I tick something off the list, I find two more things to add, but I guess that’s just part of starting a business. Wish me luck — I think I’ll need it.
I’ll try and post another update soon!!
